Once again the B.I.A will be hosting the 2012 Melbourne boat show, which will be 5-9 of July. Once again there should be a good response from the General boating public, with many Boats and new products on display, Tradies will be in abundance, and there should be some new stalls this year.

The 2012 Boat show will feature two stages of display. One end will feature fishing and related products and services, while the other shows off the exciting Wake Ski and tow sports, along with speakers to engage in professional advice to explain and demonstrate the many aspects of these exhilarating sports.

So once again get your family and friends off to see the annual winter Melbourne Boat Show 2012

Fishing March

well the snapper will be coming to the end of their spawning season, so things should start to heat up, local anglers at the St Kilda Marina have Indicated quite good catches of pinkies in the late afternoons, with fish up to 1 to 2 Kg. A few salmon are also being caught and the occassional gummy shark, as far as the whiting season goes our anglers have stated that it was a very poor season for this particular species.

So to all our angling friends, lets make the most of the weekends and the rest of the boating season go on get out there and wet a line.

March Updates

Well the summer season is nearly over, and once again the weather has been fairly unsettled, but for the brief few weekends that were hot ,many of our patrons had much use of their boats.

So whats happening within the confines of St Kilda Marina? very shortly lighting will be Installed on K row where the new path that joins the service centre down to the lighthouse exists.

Many of our regular boat and trailer park people, who launch at the public ramp will notice that the council have done there alterations to the bike path, hopefully this will be planted out with some nice natives.

Also the New line marking over at the wet storage entrance gate, and the entrance arrows and crossings at the Riva restaurant.

Recently we had the promenade deck which runs around the perimeter of the wet storage, high pressure blasted, just to freshen up the promenade ,as it was looking a little orinary after many years of weathering.

Once Again the Staff and Management of the St Kilda Marina would like to wish all our customer a safe and upcoming Easter.

St Kilda Marina, management staff and members, express our sadness in the passing on, of Andrew Varga. To all those that knew Andy, his contribution to the St Kilda Coast Guard and to boating in general was a lifelong passion. Our condolences to his wife, children and family. He will be sadly missed.

Well Spring is in the air? well with the way the weather was today, as seen by the photograph it was far from springtime today, but looking on the positive side, with the footy finals now on, it won’t be long before we are enjoying many warm sunny days, and tinkering in and around our boats.

Dredging the Entrance sept/oct.

Dredging at the St Kilda marina entrance will commence sometime shortly ,September/October is the penciled in date, so we urge all Interested boating parties from the marina, and those that use our Public Ramp to take Caution when navigating at the entrance, please pass on the side of the dredge that displays the diamond shape or follow the dredge operators signal, please slow right down to 5 knots and proceed with extreme caution.

Security Camera

As most of us are aware, with privacy Issues there are for’s and against, in relation to the setting up and Installation of Security devices in and around the Marina.

Currently a Camera has been commissioned to monitor activity of C row ,In which we will be able to monitor the Jet skis. As with the size of these pleasure craft, they are a sought after vessel, for thieves! so the marina therefore see’s it as necessary to have this area monitored, surveillance will occur 24/7, as well as the nightly guard service which will be maintained as per schedule through out the year.

New Masterplan for Marina Reserve.

Have your say at Port Phillip. The City of Port Phillip is embarking on the next stage of the Marina Reserve project, following the reciept of coastal consent on the masterplan. In this stage, we will develop the detailed design, which will include skateable space, public toilets, picnic and play area, improved environmental features and a whole lot more, along with an operations plan for the reserve.

The City of Port Phillip is committed to creating a great place for active young people and families on the foreshore, and are Inviting the community to get Involved in this next stage of implementing the masterplan. Come along to one or all of our community meetings, to contribute to the operations plan for the reserve and provide comments on the detailed design.

Winter 2011 Update

Hi there to all our boat owners, well the winter chill has set in, these early morning cold temperatures are keeping all our resident fishermen indoors, and alot of our recreational boaters as well.

Things at the Marina have been very quiet with regards to boating activity, the only person that seems to be going out at the moment is the Spinner Jet Boat ride ( 03 9534 9534 ) As the rougher the weather gets the more this boat seems to enjoy it! as for the rest of us its way too cold.

The fishing season is also very quiet at the moment with alot of our regulars not being able to get out due to the bad weather, but for the anglers that have braved the rough conditions, it has been slim pickings.

Remember that” winter maintenance is summer peace of mind” so why not get your boat seviced at the St Kilda Boat Sales and Service centre, or if you are thinking of an update go and see our proffessional brokers at St Kilda Boat Sales (03 9525 5500 ) I’m sure they can do a deal.
